Area youth programs turn OU-C into a hub for summertime learning

On the heels of the recent graduation ceremony, OU-C remains a hotbed of summertime learning for area youngsters.

Sixteen students from Bishop Flaget, Chillicothe Middle School, Huntington, Logan Elm and Unioto school districts are participating in Robocamp through June 18. The students are using sophisticated Lego Mindstorm NXT kits and computer software to program their creations and learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) concepts during the week-long workshop.

Also, area students continue to explore the fun side of learning during the annual Kids in College program in Bennett Hall. More than 90 students are involved in classes such as Harry Potter, Ooey Gooey Science, Mount Olympus and Backyard Biology.

For more than 20 years, this popular program has been a staple of summertime learning. Kids in College offers an opportunity for area students to explore areas of interest while combining academic enrichment with creativity. In fact, curiosity and creativity seem to be the main prerequisites.
