Career Services staff member discusses dining tips for professional gatherings

Kristine Hoke, assistant director of Career Services at Ohio University, presented a workshop on dining etiquette to students in Technical and Applied Studies seminar, an OU-C capstone class taught by faculty member Tom Brown.
“This event was very helpful, especially to students who are about to begin their careers and will soon be involved in the job hunt or are already involved in the process,” said Jason Atkins, a student in the class. It was a successful workshop, and everyone who attended received valuable information that will help them when the time comes for them to use their new skills to impress any business professionals they may interact with in the future.”
Fellow student Barbara Davis said, “Kristine did an excellent job of guiding the students through each course of the meal and offering tips and ‘do’s and don’ts’ as they appertain to etiquette, good manners and professional conduct. The event was well attended and well received. The students asked many questions and appreciated the knowledge and insights that Kristine shared with the class.”
“Kristine talked about items such as who should be seated first, who should pay the bill, where to place your napkin when leaving the table, what you should do if your food is not satisfactory, what order to use your silverware, and the purpose of each piece of the table setting just to name a few,” Davis said. “The meal was catered by Celebrations and they did a very fine job and provided us with meals consisting of tossed salad, soup, dinner rolls, grilled chicken breast, and green beans with drink choices of coffee, tea or water.”
Besides Atkins and Davis, other students who planned the event are Abby Sullivan and Alana Beverly.
