Campus, community combine for event that celebrates power of the pen and triumph of trees

Members of the Chillicothe Campus community gathered for the recent annual Earth Day and Poetry event at the Stevenson Center. Following a picnic that featured musical selections, English faculty member Stephen Morrow was the emcee for the poetry segment, which included approximately 30 individuals, including students, faculty and community members, sharing their favorite selections. The readings included both published and personal writings, including the works of one individual who composed a poem while listening to the event.

The OU-C Environmental Club distributed about 1,100 pine tree seedlings and distributed more than 400 seedlings to the Earth Day gathering at Yoctangee Park on April 22. “This effort is intended to encourage people to take steps toward sustainability and environmental improvement at the individual level,” Environmental Club faculty advisor Gary Haynes said.
